Essay Topic A The Greatest Challenge That I Have Encountered About two years ago I was backpacking in the mountains of New Mexico with some friends On the sixth day of the trip a group of us opted to brave the slopes of Mt Baldy the highest peak in the area It was only a day hike to the top but any kind of strenuous activity at an altitude of 14000 ft can be exceptionally challenging to someone like myself who practically lives at sea level We all did fine until about the last quarter to half a mile The trail there suddenly took a upward slant of about forty-five degrees all the way to the top The air was getting exceptionally thin and several people had to turn back I myself was tempted to quit and I wondered if it was worth it Having long lost my second wind every step was agony for me My friends kept encouraging me to keep going as they pushed me along I was almost there -- just a few hundred more feet I wanted to stop but thanks to my own determination and the motivation brought on by my comrades I didnt I thought that I could catch my breath when I reached the top but I couldnt The view was just too beautiful and stunning for me to believe what I was seeing and it literally took what little breath I still had left from the hike and whooshed it right out of my lungs At 14440 ft the official height of Mt Baldy I could not even begin to guess how far I could see It reminded me of when I was a small child and how I always used to look straight up into the sky and try to see outer space but all I could see was the most beautiful deepest shade of blue imaginable It was like that but even
