Value of Life Poli Sci Section One would argue that a professional doctor who is in the business of saving peoples lives is much more important the individual who is unemployed and only watches television all day Another would argue that someone like a world renowned spiritual leader is far more important to society than perhaps The President of the United States When you look at these two arguments the person you view to be more important depends on your own morals and upbringing which are functions of your environment An unemployed person who remained at home parked in front of the television for the bulk of the day would probably argue they are worth just as much as any doctor in the country They would most likely take this view due to a belief in universal human intrinsic value which if one believed in such a thing would indeed make their lifestyle more endurable In the case of two people such as Mother Theresa and Bill Clinton non-religious people would probably put a higher value ratin g on the ex-president of our country rather than the ex-spiritual icon of many around the world It is simply impossible to put a kind of value on someones life Due to the great variation in the environments we as people originate from saying that the value of an individuals life increases with the contributions that person makes to the society is an unfair statement The person who is unemployed and only watches television all day might need to care for five children while doing so The professional doctor may be a single person with no responsibilities other than his or her work Does this increase or decrease the value of either of these peoples lives I do not believe so When you look at our society as a whole life on an individual level is not something dispensable Unfortunately our history has shown us many
