What is religion to me What is religion to me After reading the assignment I gave this question a lot of thought and wondered how I could describe this abstract concept of what religion is to me What religion means to me I am sure is worlds a part from what religion represents to some other people I figured the best way to describe it would be to compare it to a tangible item and that item to me is glue Let me explain Religion is the glue that holds us together as individuals as family members an as part of society Religion sets the basis and guidelines to help us achieve happiness and spiritual peace Religion has to be viewed as more than just the church but as the very bases of our everyday lives The chapters we were assigned in the book Worlds Religion did not talk about what religion is to various cultures around the world rather it talked about what religion meant to people as a whole throughout the course of history The author did not select a particular group or religion he actually combined them all and then tries to describe the various things that all of these groups had in common The best way to find the commonalties of these groups was to go back in time when men lived in caves and the art of writing had not yet been developed Information was past from generation to generation via stories around the fire or through drawings on cave walls These primitive people lived as one with nature To the primal world religion was not specified nor did they have a book of reference like we have today The Bible They viewed religion as being one with nature and to respect all within The tribes were bound to an animal species in a common life The animal guarded and protected the tribe and in return the tribe would
