The persuasive speech Drinking and Boating A Deadly Combination was able to capture the readers attention very well In the introduction the speaker acquired the readers attention by using narrative styles vivid imagery as well as by adding a personal touch to the introduction For example the paragraphs start out with a story full of imagery and emotion about a night out on a boat with a man and another couple and how much fun they were having However just when you think it gets to a happy point it all turns around and becomes a horrible story full of drinking and death The author used vivid language that was indeed very effective by capturing the readers attention and by making the reader feel what the author was feeling and thinking This persuasive way of presenting this speech was very effective by using coordinating and sub coordinate points that supported the thesis These points were effective in making the audience aware by highlighting the fact that boating and drinking is a serious problem It also explained the causes of the problem as well as a solution to the problem The authors use of transitions allowed the reader to flow from one point to the other with ease For example in the ninth paragraph she has a transitional phrase In addition to a lack of education about boaters hypnosis the problem of drinking and boating is caused by two glaring legal inconsistencies which she uses to move from one subordinate point to another The author used somewhat simple language in this speech Repetition and imagery were what the author used most The use of repetition was effective in making the reader not forget what the author has said and the use of imagery was successful in drawing a mental picture in the readers head The author also asks questions and later on in the speech addresses the same questions Another technique Mir used was
