To do homework or to go on Facebook That is the question millions of teenagers ask themselves often more than once a night This nightly soliloquy of sorts is reminiscent of the play Hamlet wherein Hamlet talks aloud to himself in the form of a monologue but without directly addressing a listener to sort his thoughts out Throughout William Shakespeares Hamlet Hamlet delivers numerous soliloquies which show how he develops from a distraught man into a vengeful man by giving insights into his thoughts emotions and plans for the futureEmmaHamlets first soliloquy in Act One reveals the reasons for Hamlets deep despair Distraught over his fathers death and his mothers quick marriage Hamlet feels that life is weary stale flat and unprofitable Iii133 He reveals his sorrow when he desires O that this too too solid flesh would melt Thaw and resolve itself into a dew Iii129-130 Furthermore he wishes that his body would melt away because he lives such an unhappy and meaningless life Seeking relief Hamlet considers suicide because he cannot bear the pain of his existence any longer After contemplating death Hamlet realizes that suicide is a sin in the eyes of the Everlasting because God fixed his cannon gainst self-slaughter Iii131-132 Hamlet wishes that God had not made suicide a sin because he perceives death as the best alternative to his suffering Also Hamlet greatly distresses over King Claudius because he believes Claudius will never be as great as a king as his father moreover he compares his father to Hyperion the sun god and Claudius to a satyr a goat-like lustful creature Also he compares and contrasts King Hamlet to Claudius when he says My fathers brother but no more like my father Than I to Hercules Iii152-153 Hamlet deeply admires his father consequently he believes King Hamlet and Claudius are the antithesis of one another Intensely disgusted by his mothers marriage to Claudius Hamlets outlook on women
