Asymmetrical Digital Subscriber Line In todays society a company cannot survive without the use of computers The Internet is a very strong tool for business A large part of all commercial transactions take place using the Internet and our society in general is moving towards using the Internet in every aspect of life This is why our company must be prepared to support not only our employees but also our customers with the latest technological advances My proposal to accomplish this goal is that we as a company must adopt the ADSL technology ADSL stands for Asymmetrical Digital Subscriber Line This is a way of getting Internet service directly through the phone lines yet at speeds much greater than that of conventional dial-up access ADSL is one flavor of DSL it is the most common and cheapest type of DSL currently available Using the preexisting phone lines it is very feasible to convert our current system directly to ADSL How does ADSL work The idea behind ADSL is the asymmetrical design It is designed so the downstream rate is greater than that of the upstream rate The inspiration for this design is the fact that for the most part the average user downloads more than they ever upload ADSL allocates the 0 to 4khz range for POTS Plain Old Telephone Service and uses the 4khz to 22mhz range for the transmission of data This medium provides a fast efficient method of connecting to the Internet and transferring data without affecting everyday telephone activities We currently are using 56k modems these are dramatically slower than the rates of transfer associated with ADSL The time involved with connecting downloading and waiting is expensive Not to mention the stress associated with dealing with our ISP Internet Service Provider For the overall appeal of our company and to reduce wasted time ADSL would be a good alternative to our current situation ADSL seems to be the best solution
