What a beautiful head scarf This was the first question I received when I walked into my English class in the summer of 2012 Then a follow up question came instantly Why do you wear that now Ever since I have started to wear my hijab an Arabic term used to describe a female who wears a head scarf I have had countless questions and comments from Non-Muslims and sadly Muslims who do not wear the hijab Muslims who do decide to wear the hijab are for various reasons either family values the coming of age and people like myself because its a command made by Allah SWT I grew up in a very liberal Kurdish Muslim Family Majority of the Kurdish women including my family do not put on a hijab because they believe there are other ways to be closer to Allah and hijab is simply not one of them While growing up I dressed like a typical American girl showed a lot of skin One day while browsing through YouTube I came upon a YouTube video titled Judgment Day by Sheikh Muhammad Abdul Jabbar I wasnt really knowledgeable about Islam I just knew I was a Muslim and believed in One God and His messenger I decided Why not and checked the video out To my surprise I could not stop watching the 50-minute long video I wanted more so in a two-day period I watched all of Sheikh Jabbars videos that were available I proceed to watch other Islamic lecturers I was hungry to understand my religion I felt like a Non-Muslim who was about to convert into Islam I wanted to read the Quran and Hadiths so I asked my mom if we had English version of the Quran and unfortunately we didnt have any in our home So I went to our local mosque and borrowed an English version of the Quran I read
