The Inca and The Anasazi Although the Anasazi Indians and the Incas are in many ways alike the differences seem to be very immense Because both civilizations had no written languages what we know of the history of the Incas and the Anasazi has been written in the decades after Spanish conquest Both the Anasazi and the Inca had well developed civilizations yet they both advanced them by different techniques and religions The Inca and the Anasazi both achieved skills and traditions that would be passed on from one generation to the next The Anasazis history will never be known completely for they left no written records and many things that were important in their lives However they were extremely skillful at building artistic in their crafts and skillful at fighting a living from a difficult land The Anasazi are proof of a society that over the centuries achieved many skills and traditions and passed them on from one generation to another Their basic material for building was sandstone which they shaped into rectangular blocks about the size of a loaf of bread The mortar between the blocks was a mix of mud and water Rooms averaged about 6 feet by 8 space enough for two or three persons Much of the daily routine took place in the open courtyards in front of the rooms the women fashioned pottery there while the men made various tools such as knives axes awls scrapers all of which were made of stone and bone It was believed that they had extremely cold winters and very warm summers In summer the adults wore simple loincloths and sandals in winter they dressed in hides and skins and wrapped themselves against the cold in blankets made of turkey feathers and robes of rabbit fur The Anasazi skillfully shaped stone bone and wood into many tools for grinding cutting pounding chopping perforating scraping polishing and weaving They used the
