Slavery Today Could you imagine yourself today as a slave The horrid conditions that you would have to work in repeatedly being whipped for not working hard enough or even getting punished for no reason at all Barely surviving off of the spoonfuls of grain that your master would give you to eat Just thinking of these conditions that blacks once had to work in brings a sickening feeling to my stomach But luckily over a hundred years ago President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation abolishing slavery Or did it Surprisingly slavery still exists in some countries today such as Africa Asia and Latin America It is an astonishing figure but there are still 200 million slaves in the world I am here to tell you the facts on slavery still existing in todays society Have you ever heard of chattel slavery Chattel slavery is when a person becoming another persons property for their natural born life R Rebecca This has become an ongoing problem in Sudan It all started in past wars which occurred in Sudan Sudan kidnapped the other sides soldiers and innocent citizens They are mostly used for farm labor sex and breeding Slaves that are born from a chattel slave become the property of the person who owns the parents Slaves are forbidden to go to mosque receive an education or even get married R Rebecca In Sudan there have been reports of as many as 90000 black chattel slaves who have been beaten deprived of food and have been even given the insect treatment where slaves have tiny ants placed in the ears which are closed with stones and their head is bounded is by a scarf R Rebecca Arabs also force their ideologies on their slaves Sudanese try to pressure their slaves into the Muslim faith if they do not co-operate their masters will cut their Achilles TendonsSiasoco The asking price for slaves in Sudan
