As a senior in high school I was assigned to read a speech by Queen Elizabeth I of England Having senioritis I had no desire to get into any piece of writing Much to my surprise I was very impressed with how much her speech moved me Queen Elizabeth I used diction imagery and sentence structure to create a dynamic speech in order to convince her troops of England to believe in their self fight from their heart and have determination to successfully protect their country from the invasion of Spain The diction Queen Elizabeth I chose helped move her soldiers emotionally She begins by saying My loving people Addressing the troops in such a personal manner helped her to gain their goodwill She expresses care and concern for her troops by saying loyal hearts and goodwill of my subjects Queen Elizabeth I placed all of her chiefest strength and safeguard in her soldiers Her choice of dramatic words shows she fully and completely trusts her faithful soldiers with her life By using personal and dramatic diction throughout the speech Queen Elizabeth establishes a personal relationship and gains the respect of her troops This laid the foundation for the troops to be motivated to defend their country Queen Elizabeth I used imagery to encourage her troops When talking about the war she says in the heat of the battle She explains that there is going to be action in the field She challenges them with her declaration that for her God her Kingdom and her people she would lay downmy honor and my blood even in the dust Then she says I have the body of a weak and feeble woman but I have the heart and stomach of a King Her use of imagery convinced the troops that they could defend their country against all odds The speech Queen Elizabeth presented was formatted to keep the attention of the troops throughout
