Edward Scissorhands directed by Tim Burton is a film about a young adult with scissors as hands that is learning to fit in with society that is unknown and new to him The inventor who created Edward died since then Edward has lived on his own until a kind lady named Peg welcomes Edward into her home Burton uses dark colors to help the audience know who the outsiders are dim lighting to give a isolated and lonely vibe and diagetic sound to help the audience understand the character Joyces feelings Dark colors help the audience know who the outcasts are in a small town located in Florida where all the citizens are alike Early in the film Edward is introduced in a large empty mansion he calls home where all its contents are all shades of black or gray including Edwards clothes Edwards dark colors show that he is different in comparison to the rest of towns extreme pastel colored homes and clothing For example The character Esmeralda is a religious fanatic that has dark colored house dcor and dress who isnt included in neighborhood events like Christmas partys or barbeques Esmeralda doesnt jump on the bandwagon of accepting Edward like the other women which further explains shes an outcast in town and the deep reds symbolize that Dark colors help the audience know who the outsiders are while the dim lighting further establishes a contrast between Edwards dim lighted mansion to the towns pastel colored housesTim Burton uses dim lighting in order to give Edwards mansion a isolated and lonely vibe In the opening scene the lighting is dim while flashes of scenes showing the pieces of the inventors creations such as cookie cutters scissors referring to Edward an empty long stairway and the dead inventor who created Edward The dim lighting gives a isolated and empty vibe to go along with the lifeless mansion and dead inventor When Peg a motherly
