Of Mice and Men Billy Sawyer Of mice and men came from the saying The best laid plans of mice and men often go astray and leave us nothing but pain for what might have been This is such a well-chosen name of the novel because it explains the factors leading to George and Lennies dream In the following essay I will explain their dream I will also show how they plan to fulfill this dream Also I will clarify what finally happens to their dream Lennie and George have a dream which they have thought out very thoroughly Their dream is to make a stake around six hundred dollars With this stake they planned to buy a piece of land On this piece of land they could have animals and crops They could do anything they wanted on this land because they would be their own bosses What made Lennie happy about this plan was that they would get a few rabbits and he would get to tend them They believed their dream was a very good idea After thinking and planning out their dream they knew it would take a while considering that they only get fifty dollars a month Candy an old man on the ranch that Lennie and George were working on overheard the twos dream makes an offer with the two He says that he has two hundred and fifty dollars from when he lost his hand on the ranch fifty from a month before and fifty from the next payday He would chip in his money with theirs I they let him come along They happily agree for which their dream is so close to becoming true Even after numerous people tell the three that their dream wont come true they dont listen They think that theyre so close to fulfilling their dream that nothing could ruin it Yet this is what they
