A play where two opposing forces are very much explained is the bold girls by Rona Munro in this play Munro looks at the harsh way the characters create an illusionary world because the harsh realities of life are too difficult for them to bar Each character has something in their lives which they are frightened of and so find ways to avoid confronting their fears The character around which the play revolves is Marie Donnelley who is a very down to earth character and someone you would not expect needed to hide from anything Her life revolves around the fact that her family and although her husband is dead she still idolises his memory for her sake and the sake of her children The truth that Marie avoids however is the fact that her husband was not a father who should be idolised or a husband who deserved such devotion Your daddy was a good man Marie reveals her depth of feeling for the man and how she feels she was so lucky to be married to Michael through her soliloquy about her wedding day Now it seemed certain that the Brits and the road block would lose me Michael forever Her insecurity and feeling of unworthiness is seen through the fact that because she was delayed by the military She thought he would not wait on her She felt she was the luckiest woman alive when she realised he was still at the church when she arrived In describing this scene there is real irony in the fact that it was a miserable wet day and that mood created by this scene was in actually indicative of the rest of her life
