I was born in the wrong era I belong in the 1930s Somedays I sit andwonder what my life would be like as a Walton Yes Walton as in thefamily television series about the struggles of the Great DepressionWhile most teenagers today are watching Jersey Shore and The RealHousewives I love to watch The Waltons I imagine waking up to thesound of a rooster crowing and the smell of clean mountain air Howwonderful would it be to have so many siblings to share your happiest ofmoments and support you through your toughest moments I walk into my living room pick out my favorite blanket and turn onthe television and the DVD player As soon as I hit the play button I amlost in a different world A world called Waltons Mountain A placewhere wild flowers cover the hills of the mystical blue ridge andhummingbirds are the musical soundtrack A place where I live with 7siblings my parents and my grandparents sharing one bathroom and onelong supper table I guess The Waltons world is how I like to view the real world Theshow doesnt sugar coat situations it tells stories with a true senseof reality helping people connect with the stories and honestcharacters These characters which seem like real people also overcametheir struggles together Nothing in life is perfect or easy or evengoes the way we plan But I think that it isnt about what happens inlife but about the people you go through it with My family is anythingfrom perfect my parents divorced when I was young and one of mybrothers went through a tough time violence insults and yelling ruledmy life Through all our struggles and hardships my family is still myrock my world As I think back to those not so happy days I wonder howI would have dealt with my brothers behavior without The Waltons Theshow served as a sanctuary- a place I could go and forget the hurtfulthings that made
