Montresor is the narrator of the story he began to tell his story about his revenge on Fortunato Luchesi is another character in the story who we just hear about Luchesi is a competitor of Fortunato who is an expert about wines In this story Montresor would be the protagonist and Fortunato would be considered the antagonist It seems to me that both Montresor and Fortunato are pretty flat and static Fortunato certainly does not grow The fact that he is easily tricked by Montresor indicates that he is predictable unable to adapt Besides he doesnt have much more time to develop because of his death Montresor lives much longer but he too doesnt grow after the death of Fortunato His character does not change or develop He never even seems to realize the futility of what he has doneThe setting of the story takes place underground in a catacomb in Italy during the carnival season The Plot of the story started with the initial situation an insult and a vow of revenge The conflict of the story is that Montresor vowed revenge on Fortunato for the insult There were no complications to getting Fortunato to go down into the catacomb All Montresor did was tell him about the Amontillado and then he suggested maybe he should ask Luchesi who is a competitor of Fortunato As they get deeper and deeper in the small space of the catacomb Fortunato still had no idea of what Montresor was planning Then once Montresor showed his real intentions on getting him down there it was too late As Montresor is building up the wall and Fortunato is crying out and then the final brick is put up Fortunato knows he will soon die Montresor desire for revenge was completed After fifty years he tells the story and he has gotten away with the murderFortunato is a friend of Montresor and Fortunato is Montresor sworn enemy who Montresor
