Banquo in this novel is the character that represents virtue and honor He plays one of the generals in the kings army and the comrade of Macbeth He is soon faced with a decision He has to decide whether he should trust his suspicions and accuse Macbeth of killing Duncan or stay silent and let these murders continue There are many possibilities of what could happen both ways In the novel he had to consider these to make his choice This novel takes place in the time period when Scotland was at war with other divisions within its country Macbeth with the battles he led and had come out victorious proved to be a great leader for Scotland Banquo was afraid of the fate of Scotland so that was a possibility he had to consider before turning Macbeth in Scotland could be turned over to another group or country without the leadership of Macbeth One of the reasons Macbeth was chosen to be king was because of his great leader ship qualities and if the throne was taken away from him then someone with less experience could fill his position therefore weakening the Scottish monarchy Banquo had to question two things that he had considered First his loyalty to Scotland then his loyalty to Macbeth What would be best Another key factor is to protect Macbeth not only will this help Scotland but also Banquo hopes to restore his friendship with him Plus if he protects Macbeth him and his family will probably go unharmed He want to protect his son from any harm which Macbeth could incur If Macbeth doesnt want Banquo to profit from his success he would detest the idea of Banquos heirs to benefit from him as well If Banquo is killed then his son could try avenge his death and take over the throne therefore Fleance could be done away with as well because becoming
