The narrator has grown up a lot since the story where he was quite immature and young He is now thirty years old He still admires fishing but he doesnt have much time for it because he lives in the city He is the CEO of this new printing company downtown A couple of years after the story took place he turned sixteen and bought a sports car He then took another chance to get with Sheila He knew that Sheila would probably date him only because of his new sports car This didnt bother him though because he knew that once Sheila hung out with him for awhile that she would like him with a sports car or not She did date him naturally until he wrecked the sports car It was totaled She broke up with him because he no longer had the sports car He then realized that Sheila was extremely materialistic and that she really didnt have any feelings for the narrator This is the time in the narrators life where he matures the most Before this time he was just a naive boy that didnt know Sheila was that shallow He was still really in love with her He then had no will to fish and started to get into school more and take it more seriously because he realized that school was going to get him where he needed to go and that fishing was only a boyish pastime The narrator graduated with honors and attended Yale majoring in business administration He graduated and soon after became the CEO of a printing company that was ran by his cousin The narrator no longer fishes but has the idea that once he retires that he will return to his favorite pastime as a child
