Chapter 1-3 The introduction is very deep in detail and we learn all about the characters that are in the story and what their roles are Atticus Finch is a lawyer in Maycomb County He liked Maycomb he was Maycomb born and bred he knew his people they knew him - P11 Atticus had two children Jem a boy and Scout a girl Jems full name was Jeremy Atticus Finch Scouts full name is Jean Louise Finch As the story progresses into further detail we learn that Jem and Scouts mother died when they were both very young children Jem missed his mother very much while Scout could not remember her mother at all as she was only two years old when her mother passed away Calpurnia was the familys cook and she helped raise the children However she appears to be quite strict The children for some reason called their father by his first name Atticus which he didnt mind Also in chapter one we are introduced to the storys setting which takes place in Alabama in 1930 You can really tell what things were like back then from the way they communicate verbally to the clothes they wear We also learn in chapter one that there is a neighbor called Radley Everybody seems to be afraid of the Radley family Some of the people of Maycomb appear to be superstitious and there were several stories made up about the Radley family I personally believe that none of the stories are true but old time myths to scare the younger children We also meet Dill in this chapter His real name is Charles Baker Harris Dill was from Meridian Mississippi but he spent his summer in Alabama visiting his aunt Miss Rachel Scout starts grade one Her teacher is Miss Caroline Fisher Scout is the kind of student who had previous experience taking on the challenges of the school curriculum at a very
