CHANGE Assessment Task TASK 1 TEXT RESPONSE TOMORROW WHEN THE WAR BEGAN written by John Marsden novel-TEXT RESPONSE SHEET SUMMARY OF MATERIAL Tomorrow When The War Began is a war novel by John Marsden the setting is a rural town called Wirrawee located somewhere in rural Australia The protagonist Ellie narrates the story a teenager who organises a camping trip to the bush with six close friends As they return they discover to their dismay a foreign force has invaded the country and their families havent returned from the local show day the animals are dead the phones are dead and the streets are deserted As the band of ordinary teenagers progress to a teen militia they experience hardship but friendships and relationships strengthen and theyre able to survive in the bush and plan their revenge A few major moments in the plot signify the drastic change brought about by this war Ellie kills a soldier in self-defence the teens blow a bridge up and a character is shot It can be said with the utmost assurance that these characters will never be the same after the ordeal they endure it affected each and everyone emotionally morally and physically DISCUSS THE WAY THE TEXT REPRESENTS CHANGE The text represents change through the change in characters personalities relationships and increasing maturity their environment and the war Its a narrative that captures a lot of change all induced by the war that brews in the small country town of Wirrawee The text represents War and its relationship with change the great impact it has as it infects all matter of society and living Change is represented as something frightening and dreadful yet it should be embraced in the hope of dealing with it We are shown how war can enforce this type of change on us The text represents change as being positive and negative in nature positive change can even
