From To Build a Fire by Jack London the man is walking in the Yukon going to Henderson Creek where the temperatures are precisely seventy-five degrees below zero but the only problem is that the man is quick and alert in the things of life but only in the things and not their significance This man is walking in deep snow where his spit freezes before it even hits the ground and the only protection he is wearing from the cold is mittens ear-flaps warm moccasins and thick socks That is not enough to protect you from the heavy winds and freezing cold wet snow The only concern for the man is to get to the creek and the snow is just an obstacle getting in his way In addition the man has a dog walking behind him that has better instincts than himself The dog being and animal even understands the fact that it was no time for travelling and question eagerly every unwanted movement he made when he follows the man As a matter of fact the dog can portray the mans conscience which he is clearly ignoring The man knows about the weather he knows about the extremely cold temperatures he also knows about the time frame in his travels but that is not what he is not his concern His concern and goal is to arrive to Henderson CReek and eat a hot supper with the boys His dedication to reach his destination are a bit odd and absurd but motivation was great for him
