The ancient city of Rome was advanced in many ways The combination of the intellectually advanced engineers and physically inclined architects were able to build Rome as if it fell from the heavens The greatness of these architects dreams was equally expressed to all from the slaves to Caesar From the races held in the Circus Maximus to the gladiator tournaments of the Colossuem and to the beauty that was contained by the city of Pompeii From the visions of men visions that seemed to come from Apollo himself visions that should not be tarnished with such things as words but only enjoyed in silence a great city was constructed For that is where these dreams are born the city of Rome The Colosseum or the Flavian Amphitheater is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Rome It is 600 feet long 161 feet high and 500 feet wide It could hold 50000-80000 spectators at any given time The Colosseum had four levels and seventy-six entrances for its spectators The first level was for the Emperor the Senators and the Vestals The second level was for the upper class On the third level sat the professional and business classes and on the fourth level sat the common people and woman Upon its completion it was inaugurated with one hundred days of games and festivals where 9000 wild animals and 2000 gladiators were killed Most shows in the Colosseum lasted all day beginning with comedic contests and exotic animal shows in the morning and moving on to professional gladiator events in the afternoon In most tournaments and games death played a prominent role Bishop Eggers The Pantheon was a temple dedicated to all the Roman Gods It was one of the most impressive buildings in Rome It was rebuilt by Hadrian in AD 120-124 The Pantheon could be found in the center of Rome It was a dome shaped building with the interior being
