In the prologue to Negros With Guns Robert Williams states It has always been an accepted right of Americans as the history of our Western states proves that where the law is unable or unwilling to enforce order the citizens can and must act in self-defense against lawless violence I believe this right holds for black Americans as well as whites In his book Williams invoked the words of the Declaration of Independence and critiqued the lack of protection for African-Americans by local authorities Throughout Negros With Guns it is clear that African Americas arent as sacred as white Americans They are seen as the underdogs and less important Many African-Americans have died because law enforcement failed to protect them Americans have a constitutional right to own handguns whether black or white although handling racial issues without the law may stir up noise a movement needs to be made and it might be violentRobert Williams states To us there was no constitution no such thing as moral persuasion-the only thing left was the bullet The second Amendment to the United States Constitution states A well-regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed The second amendment speaks differently to people depending on their view of gun laws Does the amendment in fact state that everyone has the right to bear arms Alternatively does it mean only a militia has the right Are both correct but the amendment outdated For Robert Williams the right to bear arms simply meant meet violence with violenceThe thought that since the law wouldnt help it was the right of African-Americans to handle their own was the mindset of many In 1955 in Monroe North Carolina the press started to carry articles about the Klan activities The Klan saw Robert and his fellow NAACP members as communist-Inspired-National-Association-for-the-Advancement-of-Colored-People They campaigned to drive and remove
