The Spanish flu Influenza A-H1N1 a worldwide pandemic occurred in 1918 This disease belongs to the family Orthomyxoviridae The disease infected five hundred million people around the world It was not common in just one place it was worldwide therefore you could get it anywhere Its common in the colder months though Despite the name this disease did not originate in Spain or any Hispanic countries instead the cases began in Kansas at Camp Funston where soldiers from Haskell County carried the disease there Animals can have the disease and be affected by it Influenza A can occasionally be transmitted from wild birds to other species causing outbreaks in domestic poultry and may give rise to human influenza pandemics The Spanish flu can be spread also through an infected person and a contaminated object The symptoms of the Spanish flu are extreme fatigue fever runny and stuffy nose headache and the victims would start getting discoloration of skin theyd start turning blue They victims would also cough with such force that theyd tear their abdominal muscles Foamy blood would exit form their mouth or nose Some victims would bleed through their ears others would vomit and the rest would become incontinentThe structure of the Spanish influenza contains the virion the global particle that exists outside of the host cell consisting of a nucleic acid core a protein coat and in some species an external envelope The Influenza A virus is sheathed in a lipid bilayer derived from the plasma membrane of its host In the lipid layer are haemaglutanin and neuraminidase Haemaglutanin is a protein that covers the surface of the virus and acts as a sort of spike that first attaches to the host cell The protein also helps the virus membrane fuse with the cell membrane so that the virus can enter the cell being attacked The protein can attach to receptors in the human body as well as in bird cells
