The term allegory can be defined by using this definition the expression by means of symbolic fictional figures and actions of truths or generalizations about human existence From all of the symbolic things within the story these four stood out the most the flashlight Kates bucket Mr Curtains journal and the boys dorm room The flashlight which was most commonly used at the end of the day while gathered together in the boys dorm room symbolized communication When the Mysterious Benedict Society used their flashlight it always meant they were sending a message to Mr Benedict and communicating to the rest of the group using Morse code whether it was a warning or just the news of the day when the flashlight was used by the children it meant there was a significant message to deliver Kates bucket symbolized the well preparedness and skill of Kate herself Kate carried around a bucket and in that bucket there was always anything she may need From a Swiss army knife a rope and a spy glass disguised as a kaleidoscope the bucket contained everything that could help the children during their mission and it did Mr Curtain the antagonist of the story kept a journal with malicious plots and evil schemes Throughout the story the children are trying to grab ahold of the journal so it can help them better defeat Mr Curtain the journal symbolized the evil the children wanted to overthrow and the key to defeat because of all the useful information in it Throughout the novel the children tried several things to distract Mr Curtain so they could read the journal for what was in it would help them destroy the evil in the island Although they were never able to capture the journal they read a couple of entries which significantly helped them in the defeat of Mr Curtain The final allegory is the boys dorm room which symbolized the childrens headquarters At
