The book 1984 is based around the main character Winston Smith and written by George Orwell Winston Smith is a Party member working for the Ministry of Truth correcting errors in past publications for Big Brother the symbol of the Party and Oceania However Winston feels watched by the telescreens and is thinking of rebelling against Big Brother Constant observation has him paranoid and the Thought Police could take him at any moment Even in his own home Winston says There is no way of shutting it off completely4The telescreen scrutinizes Winstons every move Winston never has the privacy to see if anyone else thinks the way he does The privacy to see if whether or not others want to rebel and fight for their freedom He suspects at least one other man feels the same a man by the name of OBrien OBrien is a member of the Inner Party One day OBrien stood up He had taken off his spectacles and was in the act of resetting them on his nose with his characteristic gesture but there was a fraction of a second when their eyes met and for as long as it took to happen Winston knew yes he knew that OBrien was thinking the same thing as himself 21 Winston believed OBrien had the same hatred and disgust for Big Brother as himself Winston hoped that OBrian himself also felt watched Winston hoped that there was a secret underground conspiracy Perhaps the rumors of vast underground conspiracies were true After all perhaps the Brotherhood really existed 21 Still Winston could not be sure in spite of all the arrests and overheard conversationsWhen the time comes to rebel Winston will most definitely participate Hopefully in the near future changes will come Big Brother can be overthrown and people can finally have their rights and freedom Winston will finally know whether or not he is alone
