DeMarco Langston Mrs Hampton English Comp1 April 11 2000 1030-1130 Essay 4 A Cloning Argument Our society can benefit from cloning Science fiction stories have put misrepresented views into the minds of many people but I think it scares them because it is so new If we as human being fail to have the nerve to explore the unknown we would never have discovered many of todays medical procedures or medicines to cure our fellow Americans illnesses Cloning is the most ingenious way to create an exact copy of animals and plants so why should we approve of human replication many people ask There are many movies that have had aliens in them and distorted the views of space for people but we still have government funding for space programs such as NASA In the movie Alien Resurrection there is a scene where several of Ripleys unsuccessful clones are revealed and the results are quite frightening Seeing this although it is only a film people have to ask themselves how close it could be to reality People will just have to get used to the idea of cloning individ uals The technology is so new that it will take years to develop but I think that cloning humans is inevitable whether it be for medical purposes research or to satisfy the needs of infertile couples Cloning has the potential to produce enormous health benefits One benefit is to create better genetically engineered animals to treat human diseases Another benefit is to create models for the study of human diseases There is also a possibility to regenerate human tissue such as skin and spinal cord tissue and maybe even organs if the technology has a chance to develop The announcement that a team of British scientists had successfully cloned an adult sheep has touched off a new wave of discussion over the ethical implications of such a featCNN Should we be cloning
