In most peoplefs lives there comes a point in time where their perception changes suddenly a single moment in their life when they come to a sudden realization These essays gFrom Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass An American Slaveh by Frederick Douglass and gSalvationh by Langston Hughes describe about both authorfs childhood their experiences in different time period however in both authorfs personal lives the influences of adults on children physically and emotionally let them to change and realize themselves and understand what is right and wrong In his essay Douglass describe about his childhood in slavery Frederick Douglass was born a slave in 1817 in Tuckahoe Maryland He did not know the exact date of his birth because there were no any records containing it for slaves and it was the wish of most slave masters to keep their slaves thus ignorant His mother was named Harriet Bailey He knew very little about his mother since she was employed as a field hand on a plantation some twelve miles away and she died when he was eight or nine years old He was separated from his mother when he was an infant and raised by an old woman Douglass knew even less about his father but it was rumored that he was the son of his White slave master Aaron Anthony The main focus of this essay is on the lives of the American Slaves and their treatment by their masters The brutality brought upon the slaves by their holders was cruel and almost sadistic Langston Hughes describe about religious event in his childhood When Langston was going on thirteen there was a big revival at his Auntie Reedfs church in Lincoln Illinois and his Aunt had determined that the time had come for young Langston to be saved The preacher had preached a wonderful sermon and one by one each youngster jumped up and went to Jesus Finally Langston
