Tom Clancys Rainbow Six incorporates all the elements from his previous novels big conspiracies spies guns and lots of detail This time however the bad guys are a lot closer to home The main characater in Rainbow Six is John Clark Clancys favourite spook and his second most famous character after Jack Ryan Clark has many of Ryans more appealing traits but he also has a different side to his character representing the more violent and darker parts of humanity In this adventure Clark is the head of a new multinational anti-terrorist group called Rainbow He teams up with Domingo Ding Chavez his trusty sidekick Instead of his usual story backdrops namely the Cold War and international espionage Rainbow Sixs main focus is on the pre-eminent fear of the 90s - the threat of a biological catastrophe and mass destruction Clark has left the CIA to create an England-based organisation code-named Rainbow Its mission is to deploy an elite squad of American operatives combined with handpicked British French and German agents to stop terrorism in its tracks Rainbows emergence could not be timelier In quick succession the force diffuses three attempted terrorist actions This terrorist activity is linked to a plan launched by the founder of Horizon Corporation a large bio-medical company that takes its research into diseases a little too deep who decides to play God with humanity If John Clark is not successful in stopping this outbreak the resulting outbreak will destroy most of the human life on this planet Throughout the book Clark and Chavez run to the rescue of banks financiers and theme parks being held hostage by terrorists What is the common thread connecting these events As usual Clancy feeds the reader a stream of seemingly unrelated bits of information concerning the Rainbow team a former KGB agent the Australian Olympic Security team and an evil group of American scientists Later he weaves
