Beowulf In all of my travels northward I had never come across a more amazing experience than the time I encountered the great Geat king Beowulf It all started when Caesar Marcus Aurelius asked me to scout out the lands to the far north in an attempt to expand the empire I departed northward along with three other men on an expedition that would soon bring us to great peril Partway into the expedition one of my men was savagely eaten by a sea monster that had crept into the river we were crossing Our spirits quickly dropped as it dawned on us that we would no longer have a navigator for this journey We wandered aimlessly northward in search of the unknown A month passed and we had not yet reached the northern sea where we had been searching Finally one week and four days later we spotted a large building amongst many smaller buildings in the distance Our excitement rose as we approached this beautiful golden edifice An inscription above the large doors read Herot A gift from our lord and king Hrothgar We had reached the great kingdom of Hrothgar King of the Danes We were immediately greeted by a man named Wulfgar He searched us and our belongings thoroughly removing our weapons We told him that we were Romans on assignment from the Caesar to scout out the northern lands He granted us entry into Herot and told the king of our arrival Upon entering Herot the room was filled with a somber grave like feeling as if death had struck the kingdom And it most definitely had The prior night a monster named Grendel snuck into Herot after all of the Danes were fast asleep He snatched up thirty men and took them back to his underwater lair where he devoured them whole The men greeted us reverently then returned to their mead drinking We gathered around the
