The hobbit is about Bilbo Baggins transition from a sheltered possibly even cowardly little man into a fearless selfless hero He is at first a nervous person constantly worrying about himself but as the story progresses he becomes more used to danger and more aware of his own abilities From the very beginning of the story he shows very vague signs of deep down in side being a true adventurer This the narrator states is partly due to the awakening of the Took blood in him from his mothers side of the family the tooks were said to be adventurers and therefore not very respectable hobbits And as the dwarves that have entered his home sing tales of adventures passed the hobbit becomes more interested in the quest Gandalf the wizard has tricked him into becoming involved with The groups journey continues into the Lone-lands and the company finds themselves captured by trolls and without the help of Gandalf who has vanished By the time Gandalf appears and rescues the party the dwarves are doubting Bilbo as a thief and not for the last time Bilbo wishes he were home The story then takes Bilbo Gandalf and the Dwarves to the home of Elrond where they rest for a while and find more information about their quest and how it may be completed The party then off again towards the misty mountains where there greatest challenge the terrible dragon Smaug awaits them As the band continues it begins to rain and they must find shelter in a cave which turns out to be the entrance to a system of tunnels inhabited by goblins Bilbo who has become knocked unconscious and separated from the group finds himself in the company of a creature called the gollum Bilbo finding that the ring he
