In the play Caesar Brutus role in the murder is still the unkindest cut of all Brutus strives to be an honest and moral statesman but a statesman can seldom be honest and moral and still be right Brutus the statesman ends up both wrong and dead however honorable Brutus has the most important role in the conspiracy against Caesar If Brutus had not joined for the good of Rome the people would think Caesars assassination was futile They were sacrifices not butchers Brutus protects the conspirators against the people of Rome If then that friend demand why Brutus rose against Caesar this is my answer not that I loved Caesar less but that I loved Rome moreact lll sc ii l 21-24 The people knew Brutus was loyal to Caesar so therefore there must be a good reason for the assassination The conspirators probably would not of continued with the assassination without the security of Brutus Marcus Brutus is Julius Caesars friend but he is not a real friend Moral values dealing with Rome and its people keep him from being a good friend to Caesar Brutus rationalizes his position in the conspiracy and believes assassinating Caesar for Rome would be a reasonable reason I loved Rome moreact lll sc ii l 23-24 Brutus believes Cassius flattery and encouragement Brutus becomes gullible and leaders can not be gullible Both Caesar and Brutus fall prey to their own destiny which is reserved for great men who are subject to flattery
