The army is made up of all kinds of people Some are there because they didnt want to go to college others are there because they failed out of college or they thought the adventure would be fun but then there are the men and women that simply adore their country and are there because they are willing to lay down their life just to keep the land they ole safe and free Throughout the history of all wars there are different motivations for different soldiers In the book the Red Badge of Courage we follow three diverse characters through their journey during the Civil War Steven Crane does an exceptional job developing the similarities and differences of Jim Conklin The Tattered man Wilson and Henry Fleming throughout their war experience In the end we learn that through the ups and downs of war struggles with fear and lack of courage all of the soldiers are brave in different ways Wilson and Henry have many differences and similarities Wilson is nothing like Henry in the beginning of the book At the beginning we hear Wilson talking about how hes going to be up at the front line of battle fighting off all of the enemies he even gives Henry a letter to send back home because he knows or thinks he is going to die just because obrabant willingness to fight in the heart of the battle Henry wants to be a war hero like Wilson too One difference is that he is just not as boisterous and vocal about it Henry is also scared that he is going to run from battle During one of the battles Henry does indeed run away which is very different from Wilson who would never give thought to anything but fighting When Henry comes back after being lost and getting hit in the head with a gun Wilson comes to take care of him Henry
