class stratification the labels in each class The first label-less class consists of labels such as target kmart big w and best less These are the kinds of clothes that although they have a high practical value their stylistic and status value runs a little low which is why logos and symbols of their brand are not shown on the outside of the clothing The large labels class consists of clothes displaying Nike Puma Nautica Fubu Mooks and Esprit logos on their clothes prominently The small encrypted labels class consists of designers that display logos on their clothes however these are either only a small label or encrypted so that only a certain social group will recognise them These designers are RL Ralph Lauren CK Calvin Klein Tommy Hilfiger and FCUK French connection UK The second label-less class includes the likes of Gucci Versace Armani Calvin Klein Tommy Hilfiger and Ralph Lauren These are prestige designers whose expensive line of clothing doesnt need labels and logos to be recognised ---------------------------------------- position of the designers This brings me to the question why do certain designers have clothes that fit into more than one classification Tommy Hilfiger and Calvin Klein are seen in both the small encrypted class and the second label-less class Nautica designs clothes that fit in both the large label class and the second label less class Ralph Lauren has clothes that fit all three of these classes One would assume that the clothes that dont feature any labels in the second label-less class would be the items of genuine quality and prestige the expensive stuff which doesnt need labelling to express status style or practical value An explanation could surely be found from the designers The designers and marketers are fully aware that the majority of working class individuals are desperate to belong to the more prestigious social groups around them which labels like
