Lesson Plan Grade 1st grade Purpose of the lesson The purpose of the lesson is for the children to be aware of the similarities and differences between themselves and children of different cultures The children will also learn the words and tune to a song that describes the differences and similarities between children NAEYC Standards Addressed 5 10 Introduction of the lesson Clothes will be displayed that children wear from different countries The teacher will ask the students How are these clothes different from the clothes you wear Objective 1 The children will name some differences and similarities between themselves and the children in the book Steps in procedure a While reading the book We All Sing with the Same Voice the teacher will ask questions like 1 Do any of you have black or red or yellow hair 2 Who has brown eyes 3 Who has green eyes 4 Who has blue eyes 5 Have any of you ever visited or lived in another country 6 Do any of you ever feel mad and mean 7 Do any of you like to do any of these things b The teacher will also point out the different types of clothing and locations represented in the book c Summarize the book after reading it by saying Even though we may be different from one another in how we look where we live or who live with we share some of the same feelings pets activities likes and dislikes Assessment The teacher will ask each student to name one way that they are different and one way they are alike someone in the class or the book Objective 2 The children will sing the chorus and carry a tune to the song We All Sing with the Same Voice a Read the chorus to We All Sing
