There are moments in our lives where a thousand and one words of expression seem to go unspoken Hidden between the secret chapters of grief and sorrows lies the power of the healing words that are required for personal growth and strength With so much to be said and not ever ceasing the opportunity it is within this silence of personal contemplation that we inadvertently come face to face with reality For example lets take a journey through Dana Gioias poem entitled UnsaidIn this poem the author speaks of the tongued tied aches that accompanies the concealment of suppressed emotions after the unfortunate passing of a loved one As a defense mechanism one would rather disguise their emotions in efforts to cope with a painful circumstance such as death instead of sharing their inner most pains to another For instance in the passage what we conceal is always more than what we dare confide The author expresses the idea that we tend to hold back our dismay rather than confronting reality Living life under a gray cloud of gloom can eventually lead to an unhealthy state of perpetual sadness and regret Not quite different from an unspoken word are the letters that we write our dead Inscribed within the depths of our hearts like the private pages in diary our thoughts tend to fall upon deaf ears thus further restricting our own personal strength and growth in the face of adversityAlthough the passing of a loved one can be a trying time in which it is easy to become introverted but thru the use of verbal communication proper healing can begin As an old adage states there is comfort in the power of words
