This man who had been raised in a working-class family and had jumped into the middle class has to deal with the vast differences between the two classes By becoming a writer he made a better life for himself but was socially distanced from his family Practicing the ways of the middle-class while still carrying the thoughts and beliefs his working-class parents had inflicted upon him he struggled with his self placement in society and with his family Having to deal with somewhat harsh criticisms from his family and others from his past left him questioning himself All the while he is basically torn between two worlds unsure of which way is the right way He was uncertain of whether the right way was of his working-class parents his role models who influenced him in his young life when he was most vulnerable Or if it is the way of the middle-class the life he made for himself a step up from where his family is He later slowly began to accept the transition and the fact that what his parents are will always be With my own life experience I cannot completely relate with the man in this story But in my case from the time I was born to the present my parents rather than myself made an economical class jump But just as the parents of the man in this story my parents too are of the working-class making middle-class income One way that my experience differs from this mans experience is that though my parents are of working- class status they carry more of a middle-class attitude Instead of telling me to be a hard worker they told me to do the best I can and so long as
