Elizas story Once upon a time there lived a woman called Eliza Eliza was a slave and worked on a cotton-plantation One day Eliza decided to run away and be free She set off and ran as fast as she could the slave-hunters saw that she ran away and they followed her She came to a lake with ice floes in it Then she managed to leap from one ice floe to another and she came over to the other side The slave-hunters didnt have the guts to jump over so they just went back Eliza saw a house and thought she would get shelter there She walked up to the door and knocked on it A man opened the door and said that she could come in She said that she needed help to rescue her children who still were slaves The man said that he could send his son to help her Next day Eliza went back for her children she got in to the cotton-plantation She found her kids and then they ran out When the hunters came the son of the man who helped Eliza had disguised himself as a slave woman He set off and he got the hunters to follow him instead Eliza and her kids ran back to the man The son of the man ran around for hours before the hunters lost him Eliza said that she was very glad for her help and thanked Then Eliza and her children walked home to their real home
