Training Needs Analysis It is extremely important that learner support is established from the outset with any group in the modern learning environment This support must cater for a whole range of needs including emotional financial physical and practical EMOTIONAL It is quite common for students to have emotional difficulties such as anxiety and self doubt when they embark upon the learning process This can be especially true when they are mature or particularly young students and to assist in this area the college has a dedicated study support department It is true that the Tutors themselves play a key role in the recognition of students needs in this area as they are their first main point of contact Younger Tutors with less experience often need specific training to help them to be able to identify the signs which indicate that help may be required In larger organisations such as universities there are normally professional councilors and mentors available for one to one sessions FINANCIAL Financial status should not be a barrier to entering education and a whole range of assistance can be provided for individual students in the form of a sponsorship grants loans or subsidies Support in this area is available for many groups ranging from unemployed people disabled young people 18-24 lone parents to ethnic minorities and refugees PHYSICAL Provision of facilities for people with disabilities is provided in the form of ramps for wheel chairs lifts automatic doors etc and can encompass many areas including assistance and support for mentally handicapped people or people with hearing sight and speech problems PRACTICAL There are often practical issues that need to be dealt with to ensure that students can achieve their learning goals ie creche facilities transport issues times of training and flexibility of training Many training and further education establishments will address these issues to different degrees
