Henry Wadsworth Longfellow wrote The Village Blacksmith as a ballad in which he is describing the deep emotions and the great sorrow in The Life of a Hard Working Smithy in the early 1900s His poem expresses the smithys pride at being an honest hard-working man This is something that seems to be lacking in todays society The smithy shows his feelings for the love of his children and that of his lost wife He expresses his emotions for his church and also that he has a livelihood that is good honest hard work with the ability not to owe anyone The ballad described the smithys strength The muscles of his brawny arms are strong ad iron bands In this part is revealed not only a description of the smithy but a part of his character as well The poet states the mans willingness to work hard so that he owes nothing to anyone He has a lot of pride in his work and works from morning until night The poet expresses the smiths love for his children and how much the other children enjoy watching him work He explains that when the smithy goes to church he sits with his boys which shows his love of having family near When his daughter sings it reminds him of his beloved late wife and then a tear falls from his eye This was because of the sorrow of missing his wife The poem The Village Blacksmith first describes where the smithy does his work It then explains about the man himself and how hard he works for his children The poet expresses the smithys feelings for family and his lost late wife The smithy is thankful for his livelihood which is good honest hard work
