Article Review 1The Goals of the article The goal of this article is to inform the audience that crime on the Indian Reservations are increasing at a faster rate than in the normal society due to disrepancies between the tribal laws and federal laws 2The methodology of the article The article began with the study of a literature review and visits to several Indian police departments and the Indian Police Academy in New Mexico They also did a two-part survey and visited with four reservations They chose Indian nations that varied on as many different issues as possible They also studied their police departments and the tribal context in which they operated in in order to understand how the reservations deal with community policing 3The central arguments of the article The arguments are that the way the Federal Government handle crimes are much different from the Native Communities When the federal government runs the tribal communities there is no change or promotion in the tribe compared to when the tribes run themselves 4Conclusions of the article There is a crisis in reservation policing There are flawed basic departmental management inadequate budgets corruption high turnover and poor employee morale that results in a lack of well-qualified and experienced officers 5Strengths and weaknesses of the article This article strength is that it shows why and how the crime is rising in the tribal areas It also shows that when the federal government steps in and try to take over cultural and traditional ways conflict arises and there is no improvement The weakness of this article is that it only shows a partial view of things and not a full interpretation of the real thing 6Major lessons you learned from the article I think that the federal government should monitor the tribal communities and make sure that they follow the rules set by government but they should let them govern
