In the non-fiction narrative The Lost City of Z by David Grann the author proves that to be a good explorer one must be brave intelligent and determined Fawcett and Grann were extremely brave to go into the amazon To do that they must have had something to motivate their determination Fawcett was extremely determined to find the lost city of Z and Grann was extremely determined to find Fawcett They both had to go to classes and multiple resources to gather the intelligence for these expeditions These might only be three characteristics but these arent the only ones they had just the one that were the most necessaryTo be a good explorer one must be brave Brave means to be having or showing courage it means to do something that other people would never do Grann writes he had survived in the South American wilderness without contact with the outside world how he was ambushed by hostile tribesmen many of whom had never before seen a white man how he had battled piranhas electric eels Grann 8 In this part from the text it displays how Fawcett had many different adventures that most likely other people wouldnt even try going on do to the fact that most of these tasked required skill This skill was necessary because if they didnt have it they would possibly just be going on a suicide mission Also even though Fawcett had these skills it wasnt for sure that he would succeed in executing all of themAnother characteristic needed to be a good explorer was intelligence To be intelligent is to know what you are dealing with and what you are going to be dealing with It also means that one knows what he needs to do to overcome what he or she is dealing with Intelligent can also refer to researching and finding clues to help the case A quote from the text would be PHFs diaries
