Is Harry Potter teaching children sexism Once upon a time a magical childrens novel landed on the bookshelves of may countries throughout the world Harry Potter and The Sorcerers Stone by JK Rowling is an enchanting tale of a boys journey from a neglected childhood to a witchcraft school Like this story along with many other Harry Potter books these series became so popular among children and even adults Why are people against them if they are popular among children After doing some research there are many reasons but the main reason I will be focusing on in this paper is sexism Who are these people against them Mostly adults and some teachers are trying to get these famous series off the shelves voicing their opinions throughout the newspaper and the internet Throughout this paper I will be showing you how gender is portrayed in Harry Potter and The Sorcerers Stone How is sexism involved in Harry Potter books Well sexism is when one role which in this case is male dominates another which is female Sexism usually occurs mostly when you are older but this book shows us how Harry the main character is the hero I myself so not think that Harry Potter books are sexist While reading the thought did not cross my mind once I among other readers like this book for many reasons Maybe because it is well plotted suspenseful and cleaver How many of us havent had a teacher who was unfair for no good reason like Snapes or known a pill like Draco Malfoy The characters are believable One author Jack Zipes a professor at the University of Minnesota says the wildly successful books are part of the process by which we homogenize our children Really Do you actually think that is what children are thinking while they are reading these magical books Yes many of the characters are male in Harry Potter books but JK Rowling wrote
