The enlightenment of the 17th 18th centuries as expressed by the writers of that era represented a new political social and economic philosophy that challenged the status quo as it existed at that time Up to this time period the official ruler of the land was the king also known as the monarch In a totalitarianism government the people have no say it what goes When the king says jump you say how high Yet it is in this time frame that certain individuals begin to voice their opinion in making a more logical government one where when the king said jump you ask why One of the problems of this time period was that of absolutism which means all areas of government would reside in a single group of persons In this form of government the people had no voice in what decisions went on throughout the country Then a new group of people emerged a group whose purpose was to bring down absolutism and to show the people that they should have a voice in government And with this new group of people a whole new group of ideas emerged Philosophys reflecting political social and economic issues were brought up and the official Glorious Revolution began One of the pioneers of the enlightenment period was a man by the name of John Locke John Locke was the founding father of democracy He was the one who first brought up the idea that government is only successful when the people are involved It is John Locke who was completely against the Divine Right theory and was against having any type of monarch at all He was a philosopher and believed that all people were born with rights called natural rights These rights were granted to people and stated that governments should be set up to protect the right to life freedom and property It was also John Locke who stated that
