How far would you go to stand up for what you believe in and stay true to your values The Crucible written by Arthur Miller in 1953 is an accurate portrait of the witch hunts and trials in Salem Massachusetts during the 17th century Heroes are rare but in this case stood John Proctor Proctor is an upright out spoken proud man Except this hero doesnt have a happy ending then again not all do John Proctor is revealed to be an outspoken man which leads to his accusation in court He is the only one that knew the truth because of Abigail Williams Proctor was not afraid to speak his mind in front of the court He wanted everyone to see things in his point of view and not to be so gullible to believe a bunch of girls Proctor was well outspoken because he wanted to save his wifes life and many others that were accused Johns pride led to his own death The moment he signed that paper he gave up everything he stood for everything he fought for Though he then realized that all he had left is his name so he said I have given you my soul leave me my name Miller 143 In that case Proctor took the contract and ripped up This action symbolizes that he wasnt going to give in to what he knew was wrong Proctor knew that by this act it would cost him his life Proctors death was led by his pride He died fighting for what he believed in many people would not have done that John took his fall by him self and chose not to accuse others with no fault He truly did fight for the truth to be
