According to Buddha man would go through several rebirths before he would be able to overcome his desires When he overcame his desires he would reach a state called nirvana a Buddhist equivalent to the Christian heaven Between 560 and 480 BC there lived a prince named Siddhartha Gautama in Nepal a country north of India in the Himalayan foothills Siddhartha was raised into a life of luxury and his parents made sure he never saw anything that was sad or unpleasant When Siddhartha finally ventured into the world he was exposed to old age sickness and death for the first time These truths shocked him into leaving his kingdom wife and children to search for the reason why men must experience suffering and sadness One day while meditating he had a moment of clarity and he understood At this moment he became known as Buddha or the Enlightened One Siddhartha dedicated the rest of his life to helping people overcome suffering Buddhism 54 A Siddhartha developed Buddhism a religion that spread throughout Southeast Asia and later the world Buddhism was a tremendous contribution to religions all over because many religions borrowed Buddhisms ideas and elaborated on them The Buddhist perspectives on life were truthful and often seemingly attainable They included the Four Noble Truths and the Noble Eightfold Path Although today Buddhism has few followers in India it remains popular in China Korea Japan and many other countries of Southeast Asia Buddhisms effects on the world have changed from the time when Buddhisms ideas were first conceived to present day Siddhartha Gautama made a immense contribution to religion with the development of Buddhism The Buddhist perspective on life is one that can not be refuted its rules and sayings are stated plainly for your interpretation For example Buddhas teachings included the Four Noble Truths The first truth was that suffering is a part of life Also depending on a mans actions during
