When someone says the word painting I think of warm and vivid colors The smell of mediums and turpentine comes to mind The kind of painting I am talking about is oil painting Unlike other paints oil take longer to dry A lot of people dont know a lot about paints They dont know that there are many different kinds of paints I speak from experience that is why I am able to say this So in my outline I will be telling you about painting and different types of paints Such as watercolor tempera oil acrylic encaustic and fresco Painting can go back as far as cave people Many of the cave people did cave paintings These painting were done with natural pigment from plants and deposits of minerals So in some cases one may agree that drawing and painting are very close Some artists often use a sketch of some kind before doing the actually painting Painting is often just drawing with paint But paintings are much bigger and tend to have more color then drawings Paintings usually take a lot of time and effort not say that drawings dont take time as well What I mean is that painting must dry at time before you can go on See when you make a mistake in drawing you can usually erase the mistakes you have mad and start fresh But with a Painting you cannot do this you must allow the paint to dry then paint over your mistakes There are three things that make up paint pigment medium and vehicle Pigment is what provides us with color The medium also known as binder hold the pigments together once it is mixed together The vehicle is what allows the pigments to spread Most of the time paint is applied to a canvas or very heavy paper Most papers are too thin to hold paint So we must use papers such as watercolor
