Phojournalism September 142000 In the first picture the photographer took a picture of a man who is walking swiftly with his horse He is wearing tight jeans and a long jacket The picture is giving me the impression that it is cold outside He seems to be healthy because he does not seem to be out of breath or in bad shape The man in the picture also does not seem to have a cigarette in his hand This picture is an advertisement for Marlboro cigarettes The picture is misleading for many reasons first of all there is no cigarette in his hand Why would a company want to advertise a brand of cigarettes without having a cigarette in the picture I think the advertiser wants the reader to think this man is cool because he smokes This man also seems to be walking briskly and he seems like hes in decent shape The majority of people who smoke usually are not healthy enough to be athletic Having the man walk with his horse gives me the impression that he is athletic If I were the photographer in this advertisement I would have the man sitting on his horse that way it would seem like he is relaxing while he has his cigarette People want to feel relaxed and showing someone relaxing while they are having a cigarette might make the reader want to smoke Then I would have him holding a cigarette in his hand so the reader would clearly see that it is a cigarette ad These would have been the first changes I would make if I had taken the picture The second picture that I picked is also a cigarette advertisement These pictures are the same type of an advertisement but completely different at the same time I like this picture because it gets the point across a lot more directly than the other picture The young
