Pro Capital Punishment The Death Penalty Anyone you ask in todays society will tell you that we live in a crime stricken age Crime rates continue to rise to more incredible numbers each year with more and more victims suffering Capital punishment should be utilized as much as possible There are numerous reasons and I plan to address a few of the more paramount issues I believe that the death penalty serves as a deterrent and helps in reducing crime What is deterrence It is to punish somebody as an example and to create fear in other people for the punishment The death penalty creates fear the minds of the sane people Sane people know right from wrong Violent crimes and murder are wrong and the perpetrators should be punished accordingly and fittingly to their crimes Capital punishment could work very effectively if our legal system would enforce the punishment in a timely manner and be consistent with the death penalty just the same as all other forms of punishment must be in order to be effective The number of attacks on young children by rapists has increased because the rapist thinks that the children are less likely to have AIDS than a grown woman Therefore the rapist is less likely to die by attacking the child This most assuredly says that the death penalty is a deterrent If our society enforced the death penalty properly that rapist would still die Some people say that capital punishment doesnt work to deter crime but I must object It always deters the offender Dead people do not commit more crimes Statistically speaking capital punishment is a deterrent For instance in Texas where the death penalty is enforced and the murder rate for 1991 was 153 per 100000 people and by 1999 it had dropped to 61 per 100000 people That is a decrease of sixty percent One Texas county that is aggressive with the death
