Religion is spread throughout the world If you ask what religion is you most likely will not get the same answer from a Jewish person and a Muslim Because of this religion is a very hard subject to fully evaluate In this paper I am going to attempt to answer that question of why Religion is I will use the western religions as examples and to give them perspective I will throw in some science views The specific questions that this paper is going to attempt to answer are What is the aim or point of religion Why do religions exist What function to they fill What is the aim or point of religion If you look at this question from a Social Anthropological way you might say that religion is meant to give safety and explanation to this world It seems pointless and dismal to most people to think that there is nothing outside our realm of conciseness When we die that is it game over no second chance no paradise just blackness This is where religion steps in and gives hope that there is something on the other side This explanation covers most religions on earth However the specifics and the goal differ from religion to religion For example in Christianity that goal is to rejoin God the creator while Muslims believe in the here and now We can also say that most religions believe that God is good and that we are in some way a product of him or her Religion can be a means of spiritual enlightenment Now what is spiritual enlightenment If you ask five people what that is you will get five different answers Let us generally define spiritual enlightenment as any emotional psychological andor religious experience that results in feelings of peace contentment andor euphoria Religion can also be a community that people are a part of that they feel they are a part
