A Link to Life Almeida 2 Revolutionary science advancements have made bioengineering a new link to life for the less fortunate Thousands of families and children go hungry or die everyday These numbers are astonishing but yet not even global wide support can care for all of these families in their lifetime Scientist have been practicing and developing new ways to cope with this population explosion in these poor areas of the country These new advancements have slowly crept into todays society Imagine the cereal that you ate this morning the grains could have been genetically modified Genetically modified foods are safe they have been tested repeatedly for any defects Millions of dollars has been invested to make this new science work accordingly Researchers are working diligently to develop crops with enhanced nutritional properties which are safe and effective in growing these genetically modified organisms ie gmo Since Mendel plant breeders have modified the genetic material of crops by selecting plants that arise through natural or sometimes induced changes Gardeners and farmers and at times industrial plant breeders have crossbred plants with the intention of creating a prettier flower a hardier or more productive crop These conventional techniques are often imprecise because they shuffle thousands of genes in the offspring causing them to have some of the characteristics of each parent plant Gardeners or breeders then look for the plants with the most desirable new trait DrHenny The Food Department of Agriculture is beginning to accept and promote this as a new chapter to add to nature and science But there are certain consumer groups in our society that might boycott or reject to buying these gmos because they feel that we humans are interfering and tempering the process of Mother Nature Almeida 3 Pressure has been hard on these scientists and the FDA because of the lack of
